I have enjoyed your book. I am a descendant of Jonathan Townsend who was mentioned in your book as a neighbor to the Foster family. Jonathan's grandson Sanford married Sarah M. Foster. In one of the census records Uncle Joel Foster is mentioned as living in the Townsend home. Jonathan Townsend came to Concord from New Salem, Massachusetts. Sanford and Sarah had a daughter Adelaide Townsend who married Grant Foster. I wonder if these Foster family members are related to you? I think I have a very old photo of Adelaide as a girl. As a child I remember visiting "Aunt Addie" at the Fiddler's Green nursing home in Springville.

Hi Julie & Rip - Re. the 1958 Cornell exchange tour
I've ordered your book - good for you. My wife's also a writer. However, this is a blast from the past. The other day I unearthed the trip log that I faithfully wrote for Lee Klaer during the tour. In spite of my wife telling me that I was taking a nostalgia bath, I transcribed it into my website (see above). I've forgotten names-to-faces. Take a look, if your so inclined -correct errors. Those were the good. old, naive? days.

Regards,
Jerry Tostevin

J,

Just found this about the grave site. Somethings are best to be left to our imagination. Thanks again for a "great read."

Hey Julie,

Finally just finished the book. I really enjoyed it. While reading it I could hear your voice so clearly saying the words that were written. I did worry about your vision that was so strong that you had to stop driving. Actually, I had a similar vision of my father many years after he passed while driving, it frightened me too.

Now, what did you find in the graves?

Hugs,
Randall

Hello Julie,
We met in St Lucia in March this year,2011. Thank you for your book which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think those of us interested in family history share your spiritual bond with our ancestors. So often, when reading, I thought 'I too felt like that' in my own search. How often, chance and coincidence enable us to make connections and find ways through 'brick walls' in our research. As you say, perhaps they are 'with us' guiding that search? There can be no rational explanation of how a seemingly fruitless search for information can turn a corner and suddenly reveal unknown links, people and places along the way.
May I suggest that you include a family tree at the beginning of your book rather than a list. It would be easier to keep abreast of Who's Who. Also, I think a chronology of your various expeditions would help the reader or, at least, a date and place at the beginning of each chapter. It was not always immediately obvious to a reader unfamiliar with US geography that some of your journeying took place over a period of time and that you were recommencing your search.
All good wishes and thanks,Christine

Regarding the grave, we are convince that three"disturbances" lie under one mound of stones and one under the other, based on the used of diving rods. We didn't have enough time to go further than 2 feet, but did find a slab of flat stones in one. To be continued another time, perhaps. Thanks for your interest.

Hi: I'm sure we must be related. I have additional information on the Carrs after they moved to New York state.

Regarding the grave, we are convinced that three "disturbances" lie under one mound of stones and one under the other, based on the use of divining rods. We didn't have enough time to go futher than 2 feet , but did find a slab of flat stones in one. To be continued another time, perhaps. Thanks for your interest. I don't know why some comments are on this blog and others appear elsewhere. My web master can't figure it out. Hopefully you'll find a way to read the others where the dig is described.

Let me know what you learn on your Carr search. Julie
